Thigh-high socks dilemma

Red military ladder coat: New Look
Dress with sequined bow: Malaysia
Thigh-high socks: No brand
Rose ring: DIY gift from the boyf

I have a love-hate relationship with thigh-high socks. Despite not being tall and lean, I like wearing thigh-high socks because I think they can be pretty cute. However, it's quite hard to balance out the sexiness to avoid looking skanky. Also, I find it so difficult to find the perfect-fitting pair. If I get them too tight, the fat around my thunder thighs spill over, but if I get a looser pair, the top bands roll down (like in the pictures). Sighhh...

I have tried the taping trick, but my tape's never sticky enough to hold up my socks and it's just so troublesome to tape them.

Does anyone else have this problem?

  1. I totally have this problem. Also, because I'm small - a little above 5 feet, most of them are too long for me! And the children sections' ones don't work - I've tried. ;) So far, I have a drawer full of them but only wear few. But I recently bought really nice ones from New Look - cream-lacy.

  2. Okay, 1. Thunder thighs -- you do NOT have them! 2. Have you tried garters?

  4. Joey, I left you a very long message on my comment box. Please check back coz I would love to meet you in London if everything could be arranged.

I like how the red coat is so striking. That's red right? Ans YES i know you you're talking about! I'm those with fats spilling out too. My thighs and legs are quite flabby even though people might think I'm thin. I have soft flesh that could spill so it could look flabby. I saw a Taiwanese variety show before. The trick is actually to get looser edge and put rubber band before folding the edge over to cover the band. That way, flabs won't spill. Or could wear over stockings esp during cold season. There are also more ex thigh high socks that market themselves as non-flabs spilling. I think those r q ex... All these I learn from tv and reading. Sg doesn't sell them at all.

  5. I know what you mean about thigh highs! Some always slip when you walk around. Have you tried glue to keep them up? I find it usually works :P

  13. I feel you! I'm hesitant to try the thigh high socks cause I'm not that tall and I'm too afraid cause it might dwarf me. If it looked great on you, it might as well on me. Haha! :)

  15. I don't wear thigh high socks so I'm not of much help, sorry. I like the look of them, but I agree that they can be hard to wear without looking either too sexy or like a little school girl >.< Love that red coat on you btw!

  17. I totally agree with you! I love love LOVE thigh high socks but it IS hard making it look not skanky. I was thinking of wearing see-through tights under them this winter.

    Your outfit looks great though.

  18. i love your red coat! bright colored pieces in outfits always look so fresh.

as for the thigh high sock thing--ahh i have that dilemma too. i have ribbed knee socks that stay up better (from forever 21) and i don't have to worry about that "thigh fat" spilling over because they go up just above the knee. maybe you could get knee socks instead? good luck searching for a good pair! i know it's like goldilocks, but i'm sure you'll find one that works. ;)

  19. Wah! I didn't realize there were so many issues with knee high socks, I've been wanting to get a pair for forever but decided to wait till I go back to Asia to get them, hopefully I can wait that long hahaha I actually like the sexy look these socks give =P and I think they look fine in that outfit above =D

  20. your red jacket is sooo cute!

I can't pull off long socks.. and I do agree it's annoying they tend to fall down.. I have no idea how to correct this though... would be interesting to hear the kind of solutions the ppl suggest!
